Kind staff, food tastes absolutely great. Highly recommend. The spice is actually very spicy, and this is coming from an African. Only flaw for me, was the wait time, but the food was well worth the wait!

Disappointing experience with curbside pickup. We announced our arrival and still waited 20 minutes before we called back to let them know we were still waiting. The man that answered said it would be 3 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes before we walked inside to find our order sitting on the counter. The food was cold (because it was probably ready when we arrived 20 minutes prior) and our order was not correct based upon my online order. Will not return to this location and hate that I tipped prior to picking up my food.

Got a late dinner after arriving in Louisville. This is actually a spicy chicken sandwich! Popeyes and chik fil a got nothing on this place! Hands down amazing!

Covid safe some of the best Kentucky authentic chicken I’d only suggest hot or some hot anything more is way too spicy for flavor but extremely fast ordered took a piss came back food was done idk how they do it but the best kfc out there check it out if your anywhere nearby

If you’re visiting from out of town and you want the authentic Kentucky Fried Chicken experience without going to KFC, this is the place. Hot Chicken is right! I shared the three piece HOT chicken tenders, they were excellent. Make sure you ask for them to be fresh or you’ll get something lukewarm. BACON AND BROCCOLI SALAD IS A MUST!

The staff are really friendly! The chicken too spicy for me personally, even just the medium hot one (and the bread was immersed in the hot sauce so I couldn’t really eat it). The highest level Gonzo or what it’s called, don’t try it unless you are a spicy person (kidding) and like really really spicy things. It could literally burn the stomach.

I’ve never had fried chicken in Kentucky before, but this is the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted!!! Would definitely come back

Inside tables and booths are really well blocked off for social distancing. Outside is open too. The hot chicken is delicious! The xtra hot was right at our limit. I'd suggest going 1 step down for a better tasting meal.

Hot chicken that is ACTUALLY hot! This is the pinnacle of the Kentucky food experience, and it competes solidly against Nashville’s own hot chicken! The brine is 24 hours and results in a deeply juicy chicken, that is then salted and seasoned and doused to perfection with all the right flavors. They offer a great array of unique, southern style dipping sauces that just put the cherry on the cake. The best rest stop you can ask for on a long drive!

I am from out of town and was highly anticipating trying Royals Hot Chicken when I came to Louisville. It was so delicious!

One of my favorite restaurants in town! The best hot chicken. All the sides are great too, especially the broccoli salad.

Wish they'd offer thigh and leg pieces. I got the General Tso chicken sandwich and enjoyed it nonetheless.

Royals is always a great pick. I always get their hot 3 piece tenders with coleslaw. Share some loaded potatoes. Just the right amount of heat and flavor.

Moist chicken, too overpowering of flavor. Somebody went ham with the spices and the salt. Will get my cholesterol checked tomorrow.

The flavor is not good at all. It tastes like their sauce is purely oil. It's very oily tasting. Also, the chicken tastes like it's leftover from the day before, it wasn't even warm. The bread is stale. I do not recommend.

I was a little suspicious of this fried chicken place that I've heard so much about, so I decided to take a trip to Louisville to check out out. It did not disappoint. I ordered the chicken tenders with a mild spice level and a side is coleslaw. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was juicy yet crispy at the same time--very similar to Korean Fried Chicken. The spice flavor was also on point, not too much heat, but very intense flavor. Each bite was a mix of paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper baked into the crust. The coleslaw was also well done. Creamy dressing yet filled with good shreds of cabbage, carrots, and celery. It's really a good balance to the heat from the chicken. The final good touch was the large slice of white bread that the chicken was placed on. It absorbed some of the sauce from the chicken and made a great way to end the meal. The inside was closed for dine in, but they had a cozy patio!

I freaking love this place. Moved to Louisville last summer and Royals has become my family's go-to takeout. They have the most amazing hot tofu sandwich - highly recommend, even to my meat-eaters out there. The staff at this location are particularly awesome. This place is a must if you're visiting Louisville, or live here and haven't tried it yet.

Quick service, chicken isn't underdone and isn't too dry, the sauce is amazing, and consistently quick service. You guys rock, and have done a number on my waistline.

We were driving through Louisville and looked up places to eat in the city and this came up. They do curbside pick-up which was a huge plus for us. Their fried chicken of the month (November) was the chicken tikka masala in a potato bun. Absolutely MOUTHWATERING. It's a bit of a messy sandwich but so worth it. There are some really interesting flavours in there with some chutney base. Just wow!!! I hope you guys bring this sandwich back because it's really one-of-a-kind. Service - fantastic. Prices - reasonable.

There extra hot chicken was perfect. Once you start eating, the slushies reveal themselves as essential. My boyfriend got a little brave with the gonzo (which they kindly gave him a free tender of to try) and probably had his first ulcer. Be careful!

Very enjoyable food. Long line with lots of people. The Hot chicken was not hot but had great flavor. The grits were great. The mac and cheese was good. This is definitely a place I would return to.

Came to Royals while visiting Louisville, and had a good experience. My kids got the chicken with no sauce, my wife got the low heat tacos, and I got the gonzo crazy hot sandwich. The gonzo is not the spiciest thing I’ve ever had, but it’s up there, and the shear amount of sauce they put on it made me feel it for a good 24 hours afterwards. If you like insanely spicy things, the gonzo is worth a shot. Overall, the atmosphere was lacking and the price was a little high for what you get, but the food was pretty good.

Facility looks a little distressed from the outside. Inside is pleasant enough. At first introduction the cashier was slouched and unenthusiastic at the register. Myself and my partner ordered a chicken kale salad and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Salad was not kale, but instead was arugula. Nashville hot chicken was not even close to what was expected. Sauce is heavy in taco seasoning with varying amounts of heat levels. Food was edible and presentable hence two stars. If you’re coming here for an authentic nashville hot chicken this isn’t it.

Good food good service

Awesome food got the hot chicken strips and slaw. Lady got the gonzo macaroni bowl and lemme tell you what that was some hot hot chicken. Very tender and tasty. GET THE CHEERIWINE BOURBON SLUSHIE AND THE BOURBON CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE WITH THE PIE IN IT OR YOURE MISSING OUT! 5 stars all day

Go there 3 times week + . Food is amazing .Best chicken sandwich around here better than popeyes - kfc- and as good as Chick filet. On top of good service .. ☆☆☆☆☆

Ordered 2 meals and two shareables. Got home and found I paid $30.00 for 6 tenders and 2 slices of bread and 2 pickles. Check order before you leave. They seem to have a difficult time completing the orders properly .

Typically really enjoy this place, but today it was very messy. There’s sauce EVERYWHERE. I pulled the container of chicken out of the bag to find that the Hot flavoring has spilled even soaking the bottom of the bag and leaving stains in my car. It also spilled on me and I’m not so sure these stains will come out. Second time this has happened.

Phenomenal! The chicken is so tender and juicy and delicious, and the gonzo sauce is *actually very spicy*. I'm sure die-hard spicy food fans know what I mean when I say this: the overwhelming majority of restaurants with "spicy" dishes do not go above the spice level of a habanero, and that is if you are lucky. But this gonzo sauce is quite spicy, even by my standards, which impressed me! The mac and cheese was good as well, and the coke slaw was simply amazing! I recommend the Cheerwine slushie, as well as the milkshakes (the latter especially if you get the spiciest sauce ha). We'll be back!

I came with a couple of friends expecting some good fried chicken and warm welcome. Instead we received hostile service, bunch of socialist political agenda. The server was wearing an offensive shirt and the atmosphere was very un professional. The toilets need cleaning.

Great place for hot chicken. Chicken was crunchy, juicy, tender with a kick! Staff was great.

This place is delicious. The tender tacos are my favorite and the cheesy chicken poppers are amazing as well. I tell everyone traveling through Louisville they need to go here.

Chicken strips were amazing! Chicken sandwich was delicious. The Mac and cheese was yummy. Not a bad item to be had here. Loved it!

We googled restaurants in the area as we were visiting from out of town. The service was phenomenal! The cashier was very personable and friendly. We were excited! We took our meal back to our hotel and were ready to dig in! The food was TERRIBLE! the chicken was fried well and covered in what could only be described as seasoned grease. It was oily and basically inedible. We did the best we could to blot off the sauce to still try to salvage something as we did not have the time to get something else. The only reason this place did not get 1 star from me is because of the excellent service. So disappointing...especially after reading other reviews.
